Daredevil lawyers take to the skies

A TEAM of daredevil Liverpool lawyers took to the skies for a charity skydive.

The eight-strong group from Brabners Chaffe Street jumped from 10,000ft above the Cheshire

Plain to raise more than £1,000 for the New Children’s Hospital Appeal, the firm’s chosen charity for 2008.

Kimberley Strickland, one of the first to jump, said: “It was a truly exhilarating experience and we were very lucky with the weather. The views were fantastic.

Hero Liverpool barrister named Merseyside woman of the year

A BARRISTER who talked a 15-year-old girl down off a motorway bridge has been named Merseyside Woman of the Year 2008.

Sue Sherman, a children’s care procedures specialist, spent 20 minutes with the teenager on the M60 before suggesting they should go back to her car to warm up.

The girl hugged her and allowed Sue, who had been driving home from a training conference in Bolton, to lead her away from danger, much to the relief of the police officers at the scene.

Five promoted at Liverpool law firm

Five lawyers at Liverpool-based Quinn Barrow and Quinn Melville have been promoted to partners.

Paul Thomas, who specialises in commercial litigation and dispute resolution, and family law expert Jenny Walsh, join the partnership team at Quinn Barrow.

Ian Till, Clare Fletcher and Lionel Greig, who all specialise in criminal work, have received partnership at sister firm Quinn Melville.

Liverpool lawyer takes centre stage at culture event

A LIVERPOOL lawyer is set to take centre stage in one of the highlights of the city’s Capital of Culture programme.

Elspeth Christie, a solicitor at DLA Piper, will join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir in three performances of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem.

She will travel with the choir to Cologne’s Altenberg Abbey for the performances.

Liverpool barrister hailed a hero after M-way drama

A BARRISTER from Liverpool has been credited with saving a girl’s life after intervening in a suicide attempt from a motorway bridge.

Sue Sherman, a barrister at Chavasse Court Chambers, could not drive past when she saw a 15-year-old straddling a motorway bridge on the M60.

Liverpool man studies law to defend pet dog in court

A LIVERPOOL taxi-firm boss has told how he turned legal eagle to clear his dog’s name in a marathon court battle.

William Kelly defended pet Alsatian Max after the dog bit a man in May 2005, and the case went all the way to London’s High Court.

Top honour for Napthens man

ANDREW Clare, head of the corporate department at Lancashire-based Napthens Solicitors, has been named the Intermediary of the Year by the North West Society of Chartered Accountants.

Mr Clare picked up the award at the event, held at Ribby Hall Village, near Preston. He was among a group of 12 top businesses and individuals to pick up the accountancy and business awards.

WHEN Southport solicitor Rob Fletcher was invited to a family wedding in Poland, he could have flown over in just hours, by boarding a budget airline flight.

Instead, he decided to raise thousands of pounds by making his way there by bicycle. Riding 100 miles a day without support, and finding accommodation along the way, Mr Fletcher, 54, senior partner at motorcycle injury specialist firm Fletchers Solicitors, arrived in Jelina Gora, Poland, having clocked up 735 miles across Europe in just a week. He was in plenty of time to attend the wedding of his nephew Geoff to fiancèe Asha.

HILL Dickinson’s Liverpool-based director of finance, Colin Wardale, is heading a fundraising programme which has so far raised £7,500 for those involved in the Peruvian earthquake in August.

The firm’s fundraising began earlier this month when Mr Wardale performed a sponsored sky dive, followed by a dress down day and a “private lottery” initiative across the firm’s offices. Further donations have also been received from a number of clients and contacts.

EMPLOYEES at Barnetts Solicitors raised £400 for the Orchid Cancer Appeal after holding a pool competition at the Cue Bar in Southport.

16 members of staff from the firm took part raising sponsorship money from family and friends to wear a pair of boxer shorts instead of their trousers, which were supplied by the Orchid Cancer Appeal, throughout the tournament.
