A LEADING Lancashire law firm has announced the retirement of a founding partner who was among the first to recognise the benefits of a "technology driven" legal practice.

Peter Scott, 63, has formally retired from Scott Rees & Co Solicitors in Skelmersdale which he co-founded with Daniel Rees in 1992.

Today, the firm handles thousands of personal injury claims from across the UK with more than 170 members of staff.

Peter, who is widely known in the West Lancashire and Liverpool legal communities, said he was leaving the firm with many happy memories and unforgettable experiences.

"I have been privileged to work with some very dedicated and hardworking individuals who have made Scott Rees the success it is today.

"I am very proud of what has been achieved and I would like to thank everyone for their support and commitment. I wish Scott Rees & Co every success for the future," he said.

When Scott Rees & Co first opened for business in 1992, it broke away from the traditional style of legal practices and specialised in personal injury law and conveyancing.

A new, IT focused approach allowed the firm to handle large workloads and this innovative approach was subsequently emulated by many other firms of solicitors.

Peter explained: "In 1992, when the world of case management software was in its relative infancy, we took a computer package designed for debt recovery and adapted it to our needs.

"It enabled us to handle high volumes of casework efficiently and consistently; without it, Scott Rees wouldn't be where it is today."

Managing Partner, Royston Smith, said: "Peter has always had a clear vision for the firm and its growth is testimony to his ability to meet the challenges of a changing legal landscape.

"His experience and expertise have been highly valued and we now wish him well for a happy and relaxing retirement."
