HILL DICKINSON'S annual results were announced this month and they show a pleasing rise in fee income of almost 7% and outstanding growth across several of our key practice groups.

Given that we moved almost 600 people into St Paul's Square in the same financial year, and the upheaval that goes with a relocation on that scale, to achieve such growth in these circumstances is a real achievement. It's a firm foundation for moving forwards.

My last blog finished off with me going to the Leadership in Law Firms course at Harvard Law School.

There was a nice start to the journey, when I got talking to a chap on the plane - who turned out to be Professor Ashish Nanda, the course leader. Unfortunately, there wasn't too much time to chat with him, because I had huge amounts of work to prepare.

It was a very intensive week-long course which brought together senior lawyers from around the world. We really did live and breathe it. It was a fantastic experience and one which I am sure will reap rewards for the practice. Prof Nanda himself was brilliant and got a standing ovation from the participants.

Returning to Liverpool from Boston, it's great to see how busy and vibrant the city is. I know traffic congestion isn't something to celebrate, but with the Summer Pops attracting the crowds, it makes the Strand such a vibrant thoroughfare.

Now that Capital of Culture is more than half way through, it's great to see how the two Hill Dickinson superlambananas are getting just the kind of reaction we hoped for.
In particular, outside the St Paul's Square building, the 'super lambgrassbanana,' the name the beastie rejoices under, is attracting all kinds of attention.

I have seen big guys, obviously builders and labourers in their high-visibility jackets, approaching our grass-covered friend and fondly stroking him.

It makes people smile and talk about art. It brings art into the city and gives us all a feelgood factor.

Indeed, I have seen many foreign visitors on the city's streets in similar good mood and heard a wide variety of foreign languages, and they too are all enjoying the very special atmosphere.
