DLA's own "digital revolution"

Posted by Vicky Anderson on March 3, 2008 6:50 AM |

Liverpool lawyers are once again putting the city at the heart of digital UK with an online seminar which has attracted interest from far and wide.

DLA Piper’s pioneering online training seminars are targeted initially at its public sector clients and the second seminar is focused on employment law – specifically equal pay.

In-house lawyers from around the country will be logging on to hear Mark Dale, a specialist in employment law, advise local council authorities on their statutory obligations governing pay equality for men and women.

DLA adopted the on-line seminar approach last month as part of its campaign to be greener and meet today's need for flexible working. The online training sessions, dubbed tea time training, allow participants to log on wherever they are, be that at work or home.

Mark Dale, said: “Equal pay is an important issue in the public sector and has been brought to the fore recently following a surge in the number of equal pay claims. Last year the number of claims rose by 155% to 44,013 with a significant number involving public sector organisations."

“The Equal Pay Act makes it unlawful for employers to discriminate between men and women in terms of their pay and conditions. This seminar will highlight the current legal position in applying the law in this area."

The first online seminar, held last month, attracted positive feedback from local authorities including Leeds City Council, North Lincolnshire, Sunderland, Salford, Gloucestershire, Nuneaton, Bedfordshire, Denbighshire and Swansea.

They take place monthly and are by invitation only.
