A PROMINENT Liverpool solicitor last night called on the leader of the council to resign.
Rex Makin said Lib Dem leader Warren Bradley should hand over the reigns of the council after it was labelled the worst in the county by the Audit Commission because of financial management.
When Cllr Bradley faced calls to resign over the Mathew Street Festival cancellation last year, he always remained defiant and said he was getting on with the job.
Yesterday he said he was focused on tackling the financial problems currently facing the council - a £60m hole in next year’s budget which includes the £20m cost of Capital of Culture.
Mr Makin said: “Unfortunately there are people who are frightened to come out and speak their minds.
“A lot of people feel it’s time for a change.
He said possible candidates to take the job were Cllr Flo Clucas, economic development and Europe leader; Paul Clein, education leader; or Richard Kemp, Lib Dem leader at the Local Government Association.
“The point is that the leader has been held up to ridicule.
