LIVERPOOL lawyer and partner at Weightmans Sian Evans has been appointed to the Law Society’s Housing Committee. She will be joining the 14-member panel as one of the only lawyers representing a North West firm.
As part of her role on the committee, Ms Evans will provide advice on forthcoming housing bills as well as deal with housing issues on behalf of both landlords and tenants.
The main aim of the Committee is to identify areas of housing law and procedures which might require reform or review. It will also monitor and promote improvements in the practice of courts and tribunals relating to housing cases.
Ms Evans said: “I am extremely pleased to join the committee. This is a great opportunity for me personally as well as an opportunity to represent Weightmans and the North West legal scene. I want to use my experience to raise awareness of legal issues in the housing field and help develop a support system for solicitors in this industry.
The committee consists of solicitors from across the country who specialise in all areas of housing law. All members will attend bi-monthly meetings at the Law Society in London and will address issues of rent control, repair obligation, harassment, illegal eviction and homelessness.
