LIVERPOOL firm IPS Costlaw is holding a unique evening of discussion tonight aimed at professionals with an interest in the treatment of victims of trauma.
Solicitors and barristers as well as non-legal professionals including GPs and therapists will be attenting the event at the Albert Dock, which is thought to be the first of its kind in the UK.
The speakers for the evening have an international reputation in their field. The event is being held to consider ways of improving access to competent assessment and treatment for victims of trauma.
Experts speaking include Professor Gordon Turnbull, a former military psychiatrist and lecturer at University College Chester, who has treated and debriefed military and civilian personnel involved in major wars and disasters, including Hilsborough; Consultant forensic neuropsychiatrist Professor Steve Martin; Dr Oscar Daly, an eminent psychiatrist in Northern Ireland who has treated hundreds of victims of the Troubles; and Dr Walter Busuttil, the director of medical services at Combat Stress, the ex-services mental welfare charity.
The event is expected to reach capacity but it is hoped further debates will be held later in the year.
Ian Seddon of IPS, co-sponsors of the event with Abbey Corporate Banking, said: “I am truly thrilled that this event, the first of its kind, is being hosted in Liverpool in the Capital of Culture year.”
