Expert speakers at trauma event

LIVERPOOL firm IPS Costlaw is holding a unique evening of discussion tonight aimed at professionals with an interest in the treatment of victims of trauma.

Solicitors and barristers as well as non-legal professionals including GPs and therapists will be attenting the event at the Albert Dock, which is thought to be the first of its kind in the UK.

Taming the Wild West

The property market has become somewhat like the Wild West over the past few years. Anyone and everyone with a spare buck set out to stake their claim.

I’ve come across many an ill-informed amateur investor – from dentists to plumbers – buying on the assumption that “it’s property; it must go up in price”.

You can’t blame them. Until recently, returns on property have outperformed bank interest and the stock market. But that was then.

David Casement and Brian Cummings of Exchange Chambers and Stuart Driver of Atlantic Chambers will be sworn in at the Palace of Westminster in a ceremony on March 28.

A LEGAL team from Gregory Abrams Davidson are about to become radio stars thanks to their new role as experts on a new weekly show.

Company partners Victor Welsh and Christian Evans and head of marketing and business development Paul Knowles will be encouraging Liverpool to “think legal” as they answer listeners’ queries on the brand new talk radio station, City Talk 105.9, which launched yesterday.

BLOG: Can old partners be retired?

I AM sure there are a number of firms of solicitors who are breathing a sigh of relief following the employment tribunal decision in Seldon v Clarkson Wright and Jakes, which has been reported recently. Although not binding on other tribunals it has given the first indication of how the tribunals will view the enforced retirement of partners in solicitors firms.

IN what psychologists consider to be the most depressing week of the year, international recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark’s latest quarterly Happiness At Work Index has revealed that one in five (21%) British office workers, which equates to 6.1 million people, are unhappy at work.

Employers urged to check smoking policies

EMPLOYERS are being urged to double check their smoking policies are complete after new inspection figures were released by the Government.

Law firm Mace & Jones said smoking inspectors had issued 1,233 written warnings to employers for failing to prevent smoking in their premises between July and November last year. The warnings led to eight court hearings, Department of Health figures show. ]

A SENIOR Liverpool judge last night hit out at law-makers, left-wing intellectuals and well-meaning do-gooders who force judges to release “feral and lawless youths” into communities on bail.

Judge Ian Trigger launched his heart-felt tirade as he sentenced a 19-year-old youth who smashed a woman on the head with an iron bar while on bail for knifing a man in the back.

Teen who abused judge in court admits contempt

A youth who hurled abuse and threats at a Liverpool Crown Court judge a week ago has admitted contempt of court.

18-year-old Mark Trevor and his 16-year-old companion ran off after shouting obscenities at Judge David Swift and Trevor allegedly threw a fire extinguisher at a large double glazed window on the fifth floor landing smashing it.

How to start? How to start? And just how many minutes of my week am I actually going to spend pondering the same?!

These were my main thoughts this week. I considered an opening joke, introducing myself in the form of a lonely-heart ad and various other equally less humorous openings; then tried Googling ‘funny openings lines’, before deciding blatant plagiarism was best left in the past with my first year undergraduate history degree.

Threats and abuse were hurled at a Liverpool Crown Court judge after he sentenced a youth to detention.

Two teenagers in the public gallery began kicking the glass panel behind the dock and started shouting foul abuse at Judge David Swift.
