Key appointment for Weightmans

WEIGHTMANS has strengthened its position as a growing commercial force in the Liverpool market with the appointment of Ian Vicary as a partner.

Ian joins as the firm's new head of corporate with plans to continue the growth of the commercial team and deliver a quality service to the North West market. He will be based in the Liverpool office and takes over the role from John Schorah who became director of the commercial business line at Weightmans in May 2007.

Ian joins the firm from Hill Dickinson where he was a partner and head of corporate finance.

John Schorah said: "I am delighted that Ian has decided to join the team. He is a first rate lawyer having acted for quality clients. Ian's experience and goals match our strategy to move forward as a growing commercial firm working closely with our clients to continuously improve and expand our service offering.

Mr Vicary said: "Joining Weightmans is a very positive career move as it gives me the opportunity to join a proactive, ambitious and highly regarded team. I am really looking forward to heading the corporate team. We are ideally positioned to make giant strides."

He has recently worked on a number of high profile deals including the sale of Norse Merchant Group, one of the largest regional deals of the year. He also acted for GMD Developments on the purchase of the 390,000 sq ft New Hall Place building on Old Hall Street, also known as 'The Sandcastle'.

He added: "I straight away liked the sound of where Weightmans is going, moving forward as a quality commercial law firm. I want to contribute hands on to the growth of the team and its profile in the market. I feel I am very much in the right place at the right time."
