Who am I, I am the dreamer – I dream of being an operatic diva – striding the stage and wowing the adoring public, I dream of a time when I can do “lunch or “golf or, “bridge. I dream of Jeremy Clarkson. I dream of a home (or desk) where I know where everything is …

Who am I – well none of the above is likely to happen so none of those people.

My name is Helen Broughton. I am the Managing Partner of Morecroft Solicitors. We are a practice that has been going for 108 years but; that is just the start! The challenge is getting us into the next centenary and style, commitment, expertise and profit. We are a 12 Partner firm with four offices. We pride ourselves as being solicitors for private individuals and small to medium businesses. I believe that my Partners and staff can offer the best services for all disciplines in law. My job is to persuade the market place of that!

With the job come several nightmares. Currently the new employment laws, which are perpetually, affected our way of work, the new way of paying for the legal aid work that we do, which are challenging and even enforcing the new smoking ban by trying to determine how far away from the building the smokers have to retreat.

I do have another day job. I continue to do fee earning in my speciality of family work. I spend much of my time at court, which the sad person that I am probably contributes much to my social opportunity to gossip. My other day and night job is a mother to 3 elderly teenagers plus and wife to a wonderful and understanding husband who puts up with me using our house as a hotel.

So my blog will be about my dreams, the administrative irritants of office life and my occasional fury at the latest Government initiative (?) of legal note.
