It was never a penalty at Anfield at the weekend. Andy Gray got it right when he called the decision "farcical". Video replays clearly show there was no foul so if ever there was a good argument for the use of technology in football then this was it.
Although the red half of Merseyside wasn't complaining when Steven Gerrard picked himself up from an equally dubious foul the week before to stroke home a match winning free kick.
These things tend to even themselves out over the season and they are part and parcel of football so relying on technology for every decision would no doubt kill the beautiful game.
In the legal world though, technology is crucial. Lawyers at an international firm like ours could not survive without it. Whether it's the mobile phone, internet based research tools, scanned PDF documents, electronic know how databases or my often criticised "raspberry", technology is unavoidable and is here to stay.
What's more, technology is developing all the time and our firm for one has certainly continued to become more sophisticated to ensure it can deliver a quality product to its clients. It shows in the amount of IT training we have to do just to keep up with it!
Yes, constantly changing technology is something lawyers have simply got to live with. Just like dodgy refereeing decisions.
