Regeneration, regeneration, regeneration

Regeneration is key to improving our City and surrounding towns in the region. It is exciting to be involved in the legal aspects of regeneration opportunities in areas which in past years have suffered from under investment.

Work will start during the summer on the £150m redevelopment of Great Homer Street by St Modwen Developments in respect of the redevelopment project known as Project Jennifer. The development comprises a substantial super store together with non-food retail, a new market hall and 300 relocated outdoor market stalls as well as 480 homes a health centre, library, leisure facilities and 80,000 square feet of light industrial space.

Another significant Liverpool regeneration project will ultimately take place subject to planning of 3 phases of land for residential development running alongside George Street close to the Anglican Cathedral. There are also commercial elements to this scheme which should comprise over 600 units.

The combined projected value of the above projects is in excess of £250m.

These projects are designed to regenerate and revitalise the City Centre…whilst at the same time attempts to be made with the former “new town of Skelmersdale to redesign and restructure it’s offering – the West Lancashire District Council and National Regeneration Agency, English Partnerships are launching proposals marking a new beginning for the town. Initial work on the proposals is currently being undertaken which including the development of a detailed master plan for the town centre which will provide the basis for the town’s development that will eventually include new retail, residential, recreational and commercial facilities within the heart of the town.

Initiatives such as the above in improving the urban landscape and making cities and towns more attractive destinations are a key process and I found working in this field of great significance in affecting change and rebuilding and regenerating areas.
