A SEAFARING team from Weightmans sailed to victory – in a yacht race sponsored by the firm itself.

Company partner Charlie Jones tasted victory in the recent Weightmans Lyver Trophy Yacht Race, which took in the Irish sea from Crosby to Howth, near Dublin.

The crew of the Deliverance 2, one of 15 to take part, reached land in first place after just over 19 hours at sea, arriving more than three and a half hours ahead of the next finisher.

The Lyver Trophy yacht race was established 1997 and is held every two years by both the Liverpool Yacht Club and the Royal Dee Yacht Club.

This year is the first time Weightmans, which has a specialist marine and transit team, has sponsored the event.

Mr Jones said: “The crew and I are delighted to have won – it took a lot of hard work and effort and was uncomfortable and wet at times, but well worth it.

“It was a brilliant race and a really prestigious event.

All those who finished the race have qualified for the Fastnet Yacht Race which will take place on August 12.
