AN insurance liability specialist has helped to set up a new law clinic at Liverpool University.
As part of his involvement with the university, lawyer Andrew Allan, from Halliwells, will be presenting an award at the student graduation presentations at the University of Liverpool today.
Mr Allan, who plays a big part in the firm's pro bono work, is set to present a special Dean's award for outstanding contribution to the president of the of the Pro Bono Society, Samantha Smith.
In addition, he will deliver a speech about the law clinic which he has helped to set up at the university, due to begin at the start of the new semester in October.
He said: "It is an honour to be invited and I am really looking forward to presenting Samantha's award."
Mr Allan was inspired to set up the law clinic after seeing the success of a similar venture in Manchester.
The Liverpool University Law Clinic will give law students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the legal world, and help to resolve genuine legal matters for fellow students such as problems with tenancy agreements, traffic issues and family concerns.
He added: "A number of solicitors from Halliwells will use their free time to oversee the law clinic free of charge.
"They will be providing guidance and support for the participating law students.
"Halliwells has a sterling record for its pro bono work and it is an important aspect in the day-to-day running of the firm."
