Why is it that football appears so often in the Courts?
Maybe because there is intense rivalry between clubs or because there is so much money at stake?
The recent High Court case of Crystal Palace v Iain Dowie gave a fascinating insight to the world of football management.
Hats off to Simon Jordan who completed a hat trick of wins and maintained a 100% record in the High Court , having previously seen off Steve Bruce in preventing him jumping ship to Birmingham and an ex-girlfriend stalker.
The Judge believed his evidence that Dowie had deceived Palace into giving up £1m in compensation and then he joined Charlton "the club that was dancing on Palace's graves when they got relegated in 2005".
In a business where so much goes on that would not be tolerated elsewhere, it's nice to see that a false misrepresentation still gets punished from time to time.
So back to my favourite topic, Leeds United . Another High Court case in the pipeline ? Creditors are furious at 1p in the Pound following the Bates buy back, having apparently been offered 20p in the pound by other potential purchasers. Given that one of those creditors is the Revenue, in for £7m of taxpayers money I believe, those of us who are taxpayers
(and not offshore tax exiles like some) should be furious too.
We now eagerly await the outcome of the Sheffield United arbitration proceedings to see if West Ham or Sheffield will be first up at Anfield in August.
