BLOG: First, a little bit about me

Posted by Legal Week Administrator on June 11, 2007 4:26 PM |

So this is my first blog! I am so excited! Before being asked to do this I did not even know what a blog was so I feel enlightened. So let's get down to the nitty gritty - I guess you'll want to know a little bit about me.

I am Rachel Donovan, associate solicitor at Goodmans Solicitors in our Rodney Street office. If you did not already know we also have offices in Broadway, Norris Green; St Johns Road, Waterloo and Allerton Road.

Hopefully you'll already know this, but as a firm we concentrate on five areas of law: medical negligence/personal injury, family, company/commercial, residential and commercial property, and private client.

I am part of the medical negligence team working hard for claimants who have suffered from medical accidents. My work is very varied, ranging from obstetric to oncology cases and everything in between!

With the hard work I put in comes a huge amount of job satisfaction, as I know that I can make a real difference to the quality of people's lives that have been subject to a medical accident.

I've been working for Goodmans for six years and there are eight of us in the department, one of the largest dedicate teams in the country.

Our department consists of the head of department, Mr Ian Cohen (who is never out of the limelight!!!), two associates, two assistants, a legal clerk, a trainee solicitor and finally, but not least, a midwife.

My blog will centre on my work as a medical negligence lawyer but there will also be snippets from my life outside Goodmans. Yes, a life outside Goodmans has been possible you will be pleased to know (although at one point when I was working on the Alder Hey organ retention case, this life was questionable but I am now out the other side - phew!!!!!!!!).

I am married and I have one-year-old daughter called Gracie. The second addition to my family is due in December so there's no doubt I am going to be busy, but after successfully juggling a case load of more than 100 cases I don't think anything phases me.

Everyone keeps asking me if after our second child my family is complete and I answer I am one of 6 so who knows!!!!

Anyway, wow I have just completed my first instalment and I'm already looking forward to filling you in on all the juicy gossip from the office (colleagues beware) and of course all the exciting (?!) news from the world of medical negligence law.

Rachel Donovan is an associate solicitor for Goodmans Solicitors and is based in their office in Rodney Street in the city centre. Working within the medical negligence department, Rachel has worked on numerous high profile cases including the Alder Hey organ retention case. She is married, has a one-year-old daughter and lives in Crosby.
